Teamwork is the fuel that that allows common people to attain uncommon results.
I found this paragraph in book given to me by the 2005 Spring Track 4 X 800 team. I really liked how the author refered to running:
"Every morning in Africa, an atelope wakes up. It knows it must outrun the fastest lion, or it will be killed. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest antelope, or it will starve. It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or an antelope - when the sun comes up, you'd better be running." - Why We Run by Bernard Heinrich
"Running is a big question mark that's there each and every day.
It asks you, 'Are you going to be a wimp or are you going to be strong today?'
- Peter Maher, Irish-Canadian Olympian
"To be number one, you have to train like your number two."

Why Do Runners Run? By: Dan Crowe
I have seen their tortured faces.
I have heard their pounding hearts.
I have seen their head bowed in the sorrow of defeat.
I have seen their hands hoisted in salute to the goddess of victory.
I have wondered why do runners run?
I have seen long lines running in the park.
I have seen them run to the accolades of a thundering crowd.
I have seen them run in the solitude of a rain-swept street.
I have wondered why do runners run?
Is it a burning inside or a thing called pride
The search for an inner peace or the quest of a golden fleece?
I believe the gods decree that some people must run to prove the pain is fun.
"Most people run a race to see who is fastest. I run a race to see who has the most guts."
- Steve Prefontaine
"The will to win means nothing if you haven't the will to prepare."
- Juma Ikangaa, 1989 NYC Marathon winner
Why Do I Run on These Hot Summer Days?
1) Because the movie MIRACLE reminds me that a group of young athletes can do great things for a small town in New York.
2) Because long before I stand on a starting line, I know what I want to accomplish.
3) Because I want to pass someone going up the hill at Whitman the second time.
4) Because when I stride across the finish line I want to be able to hold my head high at my effort and performance.
5) Because the runner that just beat me last year is training harder this summer than last summer.
6) Because when I get to the top of a hill, I want to be stronger than the runner just ahead of me.
7) Because I don't want my sneakers to feel unwanted.
8) Because like all addictions, its hard to quit.
9) Because the "hill of pain" will be my friend, not my enemy.
10) Because my coach will put just as much into me as I put into myself.
"Run with your heart instead of your mind. When you think with your mind, you think of the things you can and can't do. But when you run with your heart you forget about what you can't do, and you just go out and do it." - Gerry Lindgren
